During the history of the world, there has always been one question asked – why? And to those who ask – the answer has always been – why not? For this project two writers came together to ask the questions why and why not? Questions from two points of view. Why get a tattoo? Why not? TATS:theexperience© creates entertainment for this generation and serves as a chapter in our history. This quest to find answers resulted in a theatrical collaboration wherein our audience is asked to provide the answers. Here were some questions asked:

How big is the tattoo community?
During the last ten years, according to U.S. News & World Report, tattooing has become one of America's fastest growing categories of retail business. There are now an estimated 15,000 tattoo studios in operation, furthermore, it is estimated that at least one new studio opens daily.

How many people have tattoos?
According to the most recent Harris Poll, conducted in the summer of 2003, approximately 15% of Americans (or about 40 million people) have at least one... [In] 1936 Life magazine estimates that 10 million Americans, or approximately 6% of the population, had a tattoo.

Who gets tattoos?
The same Harris Poll reveled that 16% of respondents stated their race as white and having at least one tattoo, 14% stated their race as black and as having at least one tattoo, and 18% of those respondents stated their race as Hispanic and having at least one tattoo.

Do you regret getting ink?
The 2003 Harris Poll revealed that 83% of the respondents to the survey had no regrets about their choice to get a tattoo, while 17% said they did regret having chosen to get a tattoo... 16% said it was because of a person’s name being the tattoo...

Why did you get your tattoo?
These answers were overwhelming. Because of life, death, sex, pain, pleasure, laughter, strength, hate, hurt, and to tell...a story. This is where our experience begins, with your stories.
